Mentoring

Overview

Mentoring has been found to be a key success factor for marginalised groups within STEM. Specifically for women, it has been shown to function as a facilitator for entering and staying in STEM 1. To increase gender balance in the field, it is crucial to dedicate efforts to both recruit more women to and retain those already in STEM education or careers. Mentoring can be used to achieve these goals through the entire educational and career pathway.

We offer a number of useful tools related to mentoring on this website. Our aim is to connect efforts, by offering a list of past and existing mentoring programs, a list of best practices to inspire further such mentoring programs. You can find a directory of mentoring programs targeting women in STEM here.

We also provide Mentoring Resources for stakeholders interested in launching a mentoring program, offering a quicker learning path through videos, a more detailed approach in the form of a guidebook, and a mentor training package.

Finally, we will be running a mentoring program for female students in STEM at our partner institutions. This will take place in winter 2024. Learn more and contact us to get involved as a mentor or mentee!
